Most highly advertised fat loss programs are really just weight loss programs; they don’t distinguish between losing excess body fat and losing muscle mass. Our society places so much emphasis on weight that individuals are obsessed with weighing themselves everyday, counting calories, or constantly basing their results on a certain scale weight. I have yet to see an individual with their scale weight tattooed on their forehead. I will say this, “You will never hear me say, write, or advertise, the term weight loss.” The term “weight loss” is catastrophic, it’s an infectious degenerative disease, and will not help you accomplish your goals to improve body composition. I have had clients in the past continue to weigh themselves without shoes, jewelry, or some times naked, of course not in front of me. Is it really that important? Not all weight loss is good. Losing muscle mass diminshes your body’s maximum functional capacity. Permanent fat loss is the champion of life long success. We are all genetically different, so why should we listen to a doctor or a nutritionist when they say you should weigh a certain number?
A calorie restrictive diet is accomplishing nothing more than sacrificing the most important feature within your body, muscle. Of the weight lost on a weight loss diet, the majority may be fat, but a little less than half is loss of muscle as well. Losing muscle along with fat, will decrease your body’s composition between muscle and fat. You can weigh 200 lbs. at 6’2 with a body fat of 6% or have a body fat of 25%. Which is more attractive and healthy? The answer is obvious to me. I’m not a rocket scientist, but I can tell you by observing others on a weight loss program that once the weight comes back on, you will worsen your body’s composition by increasing your body fat percentage because the muscle mass lost will stay lost. So actually you are flabbier and fatter than what you were before the initial weight loss. You learn absolutely nothing from these diets, but yet you allow yourself to continue practicing a highly marketed diet that will put you right back in the same position you were previously in, or even worse.
Muscle mass with the absence of excess body fat is the best composition for a healthy attractive physique. Muscle gives your body form, contour, and shape. It also helps to make you look younger than what you actually are, whereas excess body fat may make you look older. There is no doubt that as you age, you tend to lose muscle mass and take on a frail and weak look. You rarely see an elderly person with a bunch of muscle, while at the same time, you never see an individual that is obese at the age of 100 on the Smuckers Birthday list either. If you continue to jump on a weight loss program, all you are doing is accelerating the speed of aging and making your life seem longer. Muscle is a luxury and is precious tissue within our bodies. It also requires more calories to maintain or grow. Just as we are in a recession, the first thing cut from our grocery list is meats (protein). Why? Because it is the most expensive item in the store. Our bodies are no different, if you are cutting back on calories, your body is also cutting back on the muscle within your body, diminishing your functional capacity. Take a look at someone who is anorexic, there is no muscle mass associated within the body. They look frail and weak, not well shaped which is what you are trying to obtain.
Between the two genders, women are the ones that are most obsessed with scale weight, which in turn will just set you up to fail. Muscle loss due to a restrictive diet is more of a serious problem only because women are not blessed with a lot of muscle to begin with. The majority of women that I have trained in the past and present are extremely concerned with bulking up. That is simply just a myth that has been circling the fitness industry for decades. Trust me! Let me make this clear, “You will not bulk up unless your are consuming steroids or anabolic drugs.” I have never had any of my female clients bulk up, even the ones who have competed in fitness competitions. Muscle is much more dense than body fat, taking up less space within your body. Depending on the fat to be lost, improving your body’s composition, in other words increasing lean muscle mass and losing body fat, may in turn not reflect a significant difference in scale weight because muscle is heavier than fat. The increase of muscle will help to make you smaller, firmer, and more defined. I have trained many women who have experienced phenomenal results cutting their dress sizes in half, but only losing four to six pounds on the scale.
Who cares what the scale says, it’s all about how you feel, how your clothes fit, and the experiences you gain as well as the trophies on your wall. Becoming a lean mean hunting machine without question is the best way to enjoy your hunts rather than suffering from them. As I have said time and time again, hunting is a very demanding sport that can take a toll on the body. The more muscle mass you have associated with less excess body fat, the more prepared you are for that one opportunity so that you can physically and mentally make it happen. The question now is “How do you go about obtaining this goal?” There is a detailed formula to achieve your optimum results. Put all the false myths aside and contact me to better your game!
