Desire, Dedication, Discipline. Three key ingredients to achieve success. Just recently, I decided to step way outside of my comfort zone. After my clients asking when I was going to do a physique show, I grabbed the challenge by the horns and did it. The only stipulation I had was that it be an “All Natural” show where they test the competitors. The Hunt Strong Lifestyle is just that: Train, Hunt, Eat–all natural!
Wow, there’s a lot I didn’t know when it comes to these shows. First, there are certain levels you can enter, and of course, by complete chance I happened to pick the toughest one, a level 5. Second, posing….what? Practicing and working on posing in the mirror and front of my wife was very hard for me, not to mention there was a lot of laughing involved.
I was unsure what to expect and very nervous. But, I knew I was at my best. I did not change anything prior to competing. My nutrition concepts and training techniques stayed true to The Hunt Strong Plan. I simply booked the show and did it. I knew I was going up against other phenomenally fit individuals who had put their preparation to the test. But I knew I was bringing something different to the table. What I can tell you is this was probably the first time the hunting industry had ever been represented in a competition of this kind.
I sported my Realtree AP Camo backstage along with my Game Plan Gear Spot N’ Stalk Pack. I packed my bands, oatmeal, and venison jerky. This is just who I am. I represent the hunting indusrty everywhere I go and I am proud to be a hunter. My life revolves around this great industry, so making the best of it is what I do.
I typically average between 3 and 7% body fat year-round. I eat wholesome ingredients, aka one ingredient products. I train hard from head to toe, 45 minutes a day, six days a week. I walk my own walk and talk my own talk. If I lead by example, it is easier to influence my clients and/or others, and that’s what drives me. Is it tough? Absolutely. It takes a lot of proper preparation with a steady focus of always battling to beat the person I was yesterday. There are many setbacks such as traveling, social events, etc. which make it tough, but that’s just the reality of life.
Result: I placed second overall but ya’ll know me better than that to be satified. I will compete again next year and be well on my way to earning my Pro Card in Physique All Natural Body Building. Train Hard, Hunt Strong, and Eat your harvests!
