I had the pleasure of auctioning off and guiding the highest bidder, Nelson, on a Florida hog hunt to raise funds for conservation projects across elk country through The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The Hunt was auctioned off back in August at The RMEF’s Tampa Chapter Banquet, which is where I had the pleasure to meet Nelson. Nelson, truley an outdoorsman, has been hunting since the 1960’s. I really enjoyed spending valuable time hunting and enjoying the outdoors with Nelson. As you can imagine, someone who has been hunting for that long, has experienced many memorable experiences in the outdoors and I was privileged to hear a few of his stories. Nelson, a grandfather, looks forward to the day that he can introduce the sport of hunting to his grandson. I can promise you, his grandson will be taught by one of the best.
RMEF is committed to: Conserving, restoring and enhancing natural habitat. Promoting the sound management of wild, free-ranging elk, which may be hunted or otherwise, enjoyed. Fostering cooperation among federal, state and private organizations and individuals in wildlife management and habitat conservation. Educating members and the public about habitat conservation, the value of hunting, hunting ethics and wildlife management. (http://www.rmef.org/)
It did not take long before we had action on this cool March morning. As the sun began to rise, we had Turkeys Gobbling which echoed through the swamps and palmettos. Shortly after day break we had two hens come in feeding before being spooked off by none other than a wild Florida Hog. Nelson took his time and put a well placed shot resulting in a quick clean kill. Take a look at the video below to view our hunt!
