All great achievements in life start with nothing more than an idea. For example, my desire is to share my passion for fitness and enjoying the great outdoors. How was I going to get started? Which path should my journey take? Then one day it hit me. I realized the most important part of designing my journey was actually taking the first step onto my path. Not letting all the “what ifs” to become intimidating. It all boils down to…how much do you want it?? Everyone is born with a candle wick, but what lights the wick and how long it burns, depends on your desire. So what’s your desire?
The sport of hunting is and should be a life long sport. It’s about enjoying your hunts and not suffering from them. Too many great outdoors-men and women are lost each day due to degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. All of these ailments keep us out of the backwoods, preventing us from teaching and growing our future kingdom of outdoors-men and women. It’s about passing on the heritage and the tradition to our youth; for they are responsible for future conservation. It does not matter if you are young or old, a bow or gun hunter, a big game or waterfowl hunter, the bottom line, you are a hunter and you can make an impact. Training for the hunt and longevity of life requires a desire only YOU can control.
Fact: The better shape you’re in and more prepared you are for the hunt, the more chances you will have to be successful and be able to introduce others to the sport. Everyone has the want to be in the best shape of their life, but they are not ready to follow through and put forth the effort. Sure it’s tough, but the end result is well worth all the blood, sweat, and tears. Not to mention, the feeling of success is like none other, almost impossible to put into words. If you put forth the effort, train and eat wholesome, you are adding on more years to the end of your life, meaning more time enjoying God’s great outdoors and the opportunity to pass it on.
Bill Jordan’s Realtree Outdoors™ hit the nail on the head with their company’s slogan: Family, Friends, and The Outdoors. For this is what it’s all about, having the desire to Hunt Strong and live what I call “The Backwoods Life” with the ones you love most. It’s the memories you experience together, telling stories around a camp fire or over a dinner in which you were the provider. It’s the story behind the mount over your family’s fire place or the experience you witness as a child harvests their first deer.
I will continue to preach the Hunt Strong Gospel: To be active and exercise, hunt strong, eat what you harvest, live long, and pass it on, for this is my lifestyle and its going to be around forever. My desire is to educate and help others help themselves. But remember this, no matter how much I want to help an individual improve their quality of life, they must be ready and willing in their head and heart to have the desire to help themselves first. Without that desire, it’s merley just a thought without action.
Victory in the outdoors can be demanding, but the rewards are high. If you combine your desire with a clear vision and action, I promise you great achievement. Establish your goals and write them out on paper. Put it on the fridge or where you will see it on a daily basis. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once. Make sure your goals are clearly defined and specific. Those who truly know what they want often outperform everyone else. You have to believe in yourself, be determined, have self-discipline, never quit, and learn to fail. When you fail, you learn, and when you learn, you grow. But always let your burning desire outweigh your fear of failure, in other words, work hard to produce an endless amount of wax so your candle never burns out. Make sure your goals are measurable. What gets measured, gets improved. Be selfless and train for family, friends, and the future of hunting. Trust me, your family and friends want you around for the long haul. Commit to the preparation, and may your future be full of meat and bone. And as Bill Jordan says “When you get the opprotunity, take a child hunting or fishing, so they too can enjoy the great outdoors. Train To Hunt, Hunt Strong! www.IHuntStrong.com
